Bipolar Disorder: Understanding Type I
When it comes to bipolar disorder, it is commonly categorized into different subtypes for better diagnosis and treatment. One of these subtypes is Type I, which stands out due to the intensity of its manic episodes. In fact, the severity of mania experienced by individuals with bipolar I is often so extreme that hospitalization becomes necessary. It is important to note that while manic episodes are a defining characteristic of Type I, individuals may or may not also experience depressive episodes alongside their manic episodes.
Bipolar Type II: A Closer Look
Individuals diagnosed with bipolar type II go through extended episodes of depression that typically endure for a minimum of two weeks. In addition, they may encounter a milder form of mania known as hypomania, which might not be immediately noticeable as it does not significantly affect their daily functioning.
