The Many Applications of Endoscopy

Cystoscopy and Ureteroscopy

Urologists often conduct two types of endoscopic procedures: cystoscopy and ureteroscopy. Cystoscopy involves the examination of the urethra and bladder, while ureteroscopy focuses on the assessment of the ureters and kidneys. These examinations are commonly used to diagnose various urinary tract issues such as the presence of blood in the urine, urinary retention, and increased frequency and urgency. Additionally, these procedures can also be employed to remove stones, polyps, growths, or tumors from the bladder, kidney, or urethra.

Laparoscopy: A Minimally Invasive Procedure for Abdominal Exploration

Laparoscopy is a medical procedure that allows doctors to examine the inside of the abdomen. During a laparoscopy, a small incision is made near the navel, through which an endoscope is inserted. To ensure a clear view, carbon dioxide is introduced into the abdomen, expanding the area. This technique is commonly used in minimally invasive surgeries, offering several benefits such as shorter hospital stays, reduced pain, and faster recovery times.
