Gastroprotective Effects
A preliminary study has shown that an extract made from fresh wax mellow flowers has gastroprotective effects and can help protect the stomach against damage and manage stomach ulcers. In fact, the study found that the plant’s potential in this regard is comparable to that of famotidine, which is a well-known antiulcer drug. It was discovered that two specific flavonoids present in wax mallow are responsible for its gastroprotective activity.
Beneficial Antioxidants Found in Wax Mellow
Scientific studies have shown that wax mellow is a rich and valuable source of antioxidants. These powerful compounds play a crucial role in combating harmful free radicals that can cause damage to our cells. Free radicals tend to accumulate in our bodies as we age or when we are exposed to environmental pollutants and stress. They contribute to a condition known as oxidative stress, which has been associated with a wide range of chronic illnesses, including diabetes, arthritis, heart diseases, cancers, and even Alzheimer’s disease.
