The Many Stages of Sleep Regression

15 Months: Navigating Nap Schedule Changes

As toddlers reach 15 months, they often experience a significant sleep regression related to their nap schedules. At this age, many little ones are ready to transition from two naps to just one. If you find that your 15-month-old is waking frequently during the night, it may be a signal that it’s time to make some adjustments during the day.

If your child is still taking two naps, it’s possible that she isn’t as tired as she should be at bedtime. On the other hand, if she has already transitioned to one nap, she might be overtired and not getting the quality sleep she needs. Unlike other sleep regressions, this particular phase cannot simply be waited out. It often requires experimentation with different nap schedules to find the most suitable solution.

18 Months

At 18 months, your toddler may experience a sleep regression that is different from any previous regressions. This stage is characterized by your child’s increasing independence and the desire to gain more control. Tantrums become extremely common during this period. Additionally, separation anxiety is prevalent around this time, causing your toddler to feel distressed when you leave the room for naptime or bedtime. Another factor that can affect sleep at this age is teething, as molars start coming in and can be quite painful.
