The Top 10 Causes of Lower Right Abdominal Pain

What is Diverticulitis?

Diverticulitis is characterized by the inflammation of bulging sacs or pouches in the inner wall of the large intestine. It is a common digestive disease that can affect bowel movements and lead to intense abdominal pain. While some individuals may only experience mild or moderate discomfort and bloating in the lower right abdomen, others may encounter more severe symptoms such as cramping, loss of appetite, tenderness in the stomach, and nausea. Additionally, diverticulitis can potentially give rise to complications like bleeding and abscesses.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a type of autoimmune disease that leads to long-term inflammation in the colon and small intestine, affecting the deeper layers of the affected tissues. The two main types of inflammatory bowel diseases are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Common symptoms of IBD include unintended weight loss, diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, and blood in the urine. While the exact cause of this condition is still unknown, it is often diagnosed through a biopsy performed during a colonoscopy.
