Things Men Over 40 Should Know About Their Health

Rising Prevalence of Liver Cancer

The incidence of liver cancer has shown a significant increase over the past few decades. In the United States, the number of reported cases has more than tripled since 1980. Alarmingly, liver cancer is three times more prevalent in men compared to women. Several risk factors contribute to its development, including chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Men, in particular, may experience various symptoms such as sudden weight loss, a distended abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).

Duodenal Ulcers

A duodenal ulcer refers to a sore that develops in the lining of the duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestine. As food leaves the stomach, it enters the duodenum to continue its journey through the lower gastrointestinal tract. While duodenal ulcers can affect anyone, they are more frequently observed in men, especially those under the age of 50. Common signs and symptoms of a duodenal ulcer include experiencing pain in the upper abdomen a few hours after eating, feeling bloated, and having a decreased appetite.
