Gross Motor Skills: Development in One-Year-Olds
As your child turns one, their gross motor skills continue to progress in significant ways. By this age, most toddlers are able to sit upright without any assistance and are capable of pulling themselves up to stand while using furniture for support or even without any support at all. Some children may even take their first steps and begin walking independently, while others may still be crawling or maneuvering along the floor in a creeping motion. These early movements are all part of their preparation for increased mobility in the future.
Fine Motor Skills
During this stage of development, your child’s fine motor skills are rapidly improving. They are likely to be constantly reaching and grabbing at objects in their surroundings. As a parent, it is crucial to ensure that potentially dangerous items are kept out of their reach. Witnessing your toddler’s developing hand-eye coordination is a delightful part of this growth phase. They may be mastering the art of self-feeding and grasping objects with greater precision. Gone are the days when they frequently drop their toys.
