Laid-Back Position: A Relaxing Approach for Baby-Led Feeding

When it comes to a baby-led approach, the laid-back position offers a natural and relaxing option. This position is particularly beneficial for individuals who have undergone a C-section, as it minimizes stress on the incision site. To assume the laid-back position, place your baby’s tummy against yours and then lean back against a pillow, finding a comfortable angle for both you and your little one.

While some people prefer sitting up relatively straight, others opt to recline almost completely. Regardless of your chosen angle, this position provides ample support for your baby, allowing your hands to remain free. However, it is important to ensure that your baby’s head and shoulders are adequately supported throughout the feeding session.

Benefits of the Football Hold

The football hold is a versatile breastfeeding position that offers several advantages. It can be particularly useful if your baby has reflux, or if you have large breasts, are breastfeeding twins, or have flat or inverted nipples. Additionally, it is highly recommended for mothers who have undergone a C-section, as it helps alleviate pressure on the incision site.

To execute the football hold, position your baby at your side, cradling their head in your hand and supporting their back with your arm. Ensure their bottom is positioned near your elbow, while their legs and feet are tucked securely under your arm. If necessary, make use of pillows to provide additional support.
