Types of Trauma and Its Effects

How Prevalent Are Traumatic Events?

The prevalence of traumatic events is quite high. According to a survey conducted, approximately 70 percent of individuals reported having experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. Among the most frequently encountered traumatic events were accidents, injuries, and the unforeseen loss or harm of a close family member or friend. These findings underscore the fact that a majority of individuals go through some form of trauma during their lifetime.

Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop in individuals who have been through a traumatic event. While it is natural to have various emotional responses after such a significant experience, some individuals may continue to face lasting physical and psychological reactions related to that event or a series of events. When these issues persist for more than a month following the conclusion of the traumatic event, it is possible that the person is dealing with PTSD.
