A stress rash, also known as stress-induced skin irritation, can occur as a result of physical or mental stress. When individuals are under significant pressure, they may experience hives or notice a worsening of pre-existing conditions such as eczema. Commonly affecting the face, neck, arms, or chest, a stress rash may cause itching or a tingling sensation. Hives typically manifest as raised red bumps, varying in size from small dots to larger welts.


Understanding the Symptoms of a Stress Rash

A stress rash can manifest differently in different individuals. However, certain common signs can help identify this condition. Typically appearing on the upper body and face, a stress rash is characterized by redness, inflammation, and itchiness. It may resemble an allergic reaction, even though no specific trigger can be identified. In addition, a stress rash can make the affected area feel warm to the touch and may cause the person to appear flushed.
