Understanding Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a viral infection caused by the coxsackievirus. One of the key indicators of this condition is the presence of a rash that resembles blisters. Although these blisters can emerge on any part of the body, they are most commonly found on the hands, feet, and inside the mouth. However, in rare cases, individuals with hand-foot-and-mouth disease may experience inflammation in the brain or spinal cord, leading to a condition known as Bell’s palsy.
Understanding Mononucleosis
Mononucleosis, also known as “mono,” is an infectious illness caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is highly prevalent in the population. The majority of individuals who contract mononucleosis experience mild symptoms such as a sore throat, headache, fatigue, fever, and swollen lymph nodes. While mononucleosis is generally not a cause for concern, there are rare cases where it can lead to more severe complications, including conditions affecting the nervous system, such as Bell’s palsy.
