What Causes Lymphoma?

Diseases Associated with Elevated White Cell Counts

There are specific diseases that can trigger an excessive production of white blood cells in the body. Individuals affected by these conditions have a higher likelihood of developing lymphoma at a later stage. One example is Multicentric Castleman’s disease, which disrupts lymphocyte production and raises the risk of lymphoma. Another example is monoclonal B-lymphocytosis, which also increases the chances of developing lymphoma.

Chemical Exposure and Lymphoma Risk

Exposure to certain chemicals has been linked to an elevated risk of developing lymphoma. One such example is the exposure to pesticides and herbicides. Individuals who use these chemicals regularly, such as farm workers, are more susceptible to developing lymphoma compared to those who use them in typical household settings. Additionally, exposure to hair dyes in the 1970s has also been shown to increase the risk of lymphoma. Fortunately, advancements in hair dye formulations have made modern products much safer than their predecessors.
