It is best to have your last meal or snack several hours before going to bed. If you feel hungry closer to bedtime, opt for healthy and easily digestible snacks that won’t interfere with your sleep. Studies suggest that foods such as almonds, kiwi, and white rice are suitable options for pre-sleep noshing.
Sleep Apnea: A Potential Trigger for Nightmares
One common sleep disorder known as sleep apnea can have a significant impact on the occurrence of nightmares. Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by periodic interruptions in breathing during the night, preventing individuals from achieving a state of deep and restful sleep. These interruptions can abruptly awaken the person, triggering vivid and distressing nightmares as the brain enters survival mode. Interestingly, for certain individuals, the presence of a sleep apnea machine, commonly used to alleviate the condition, can even exacerbate the frequency and intensity of these nightmares.
