What Happens to Your Body in Your 40s?

Age-Related Height Loss

As individuals age, it is not uncommon for them to experience a gradual decrease in height. Although this change may seem insignificant, with a decrease of only about half an inch every ten years, it becomes more noticeable as one enters their forties. During this decade, various factors such as changes in muscles, bones, and joints contribute to a person ending the period shorter than they were at the beginning.

Understanding Perimenopause

Perimenopause, also known as the transitional phase leading up to menopause, usually occurs in a person’s 40s. While the average age for the last period is 51, it can happen as early as 45.

During perimenopause, many individuals experience changes in their menstrual cycle. Periods may become heavier or lighter, and other symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, and sleep disruptions are also common. These symptoms occur due to a decrease in estrogen production by the body. Fortunately, most symptoms typically subside within a year after the final menstrual cycle.
