Causes of Corneal Ulcers
Corneal ulcers can be caused by various factors, including viral, amoebic, and fungal infections. One of the main culprits behind eye infections is the improper use of contact lenses, such as leaving them in for too long. Additionally, injuries to the eye and a weakened immune system can increase the risk of developing corneal ulcers.
Uncommon Triggers of Corneal Ulcers
While infections are frequently associated with corneal ulcers, they are not the sole culprits. Corneal ulcers can also be caused by excessively dry eyes, which hinder the eye’s self-cleansing process facilitated by tears. Additionally, injuries to the eye, pre-existing inflammatory disorders, and deficiencies in vitamin A can all contribute to the development of corneal ulcers.
