What Is a Cystocele?

Understanding Postvoid Residual

Postvoid Residual is an essential test conducted to diagnose a cystocele. It is typically recommended when a woman experiences difficulty in completely emptying her bladder. This diagnostic procedure involves the use of an ultrasound to measure the volume of urine that remains in the bladder after urination. The postvoid residual test is a convenient outpatient procedure that does not require anesthesia.

What is a Cystourethrogram?

A cystourethrogram is a diagnostic test commonly used to evaluate a cystocele. This procedure involves the injection of contrast dye into the bladder and urethra. By observing the shape of the bladder through an x-ray while the patient is urinating, a radiologist can analyze the results to identify any obstructions in the urine flow. Unlike other tests, a cystourethrogram does not necessitate anesthesia, although the patient may be sedated for comfort.
