Other Preventive Measures
Peritonsillar abscesses can be more likely to occur in individuals who smoke. Smoking introduces toxins into the throat and lungs, increasing the risk of infection. By refraining from smoking, you can reduce the possibility of developing a peritonsillar abscess.
Risk Factors
Peritonsillar abscesses are more commonly found in young people, particularly in older children, adolescents, and young adults. Recurrence of this infection is not uncommon in these age groups. However, with proper treatment, peritonsillar abscesses can usually be healed fairly quickly, typically within a week or two.
