What Is Contact Tracing?

Main Objective of Contact Tracing

The main objective of contact tracing is to monitor the transmission of a virus in order to minimize exposure and, in the event of an epidemic or pandemic, reduce the duration of emergency measures imposed on the entire population.

Contact Tracing Step One

Identifying the Contacts

Contact tracing, as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO), involves a three-step process. The first step focuses on identifying the contacts. Health authorities will request the infected individual to recall and provide details about every person they have been in contact with since the presumed start of their illness. These contacts can include family members, colleagues, friends, and anyone else they have spent a significant amount of time with in close proximity. This may also include healthcare professionals or other service providers.
