Challenges Faced in Contact Tracing
Exploring Effective Data Collection Methods
A constant research effort is being made to identify the most effective ways of gathering data for future epidemics. Unsurprisingly, the primary challenge lies in obtaining all the essential and precise information in a timely manner. This is crucial for taking prompt action and containing outbreaks before they escalate beyond control.
Limitations of Contact Tracing
Examining the effectiveness and budget allocations of contact tracing, a recent study raised questions about its overall efficacy. The study revealed that as contact tracing efforts extend to individuals further removed from the infected person, the impact of tracing becomes less significant. This can be attributed to the fact that individuals who are less closely connected to the infected person, such as the doctor of the roommate of the infected person’s girlfriend, are less likely to be infected themselves.
