Diagnosing Dysarthria
Dysarthria can be diagnosed by a speech-language pathologist (SLP) through a comprehensive consultation. During the assessment, the SLP will gather relevant medical history, including information on any underlying conditions that may impact speech. Additionally, the SLP will conduct various tests to evaluate the strength and functioning of the speech muscles. These tests may involve recording the patient’s tongue movements, producing specific sounds, reading aloud, engaging in conversation, counting, singing, and even attempting to blow out a candle.

There are different types of dysarthria, each characterized by distinct symptoms and underlying causes.
