What is Microscopic Hematuria

Bladder or Kidney Stones: A Cause of Painful Urinary Symptoms

Bladder and kidney stones, also known as mineral deposits, can form and solidify within the bladder or kidneys. Although these stones can cause excruciating pain, they are generally not considered life-threatening. However, due to their rough and jagged texture, they have the potential to cause bleeding within the urinary system. If you are experiencing microscopic hematuria, medical professionals may suspect the presence of bladder or kidney stones. Similarly, if you are experiencing pain that could be attributed to stones, doctors will run tests to detect the presence of blood and minerals in your urine.

Genetic Factors and Microscopic Hematuria

Genetic factors could be contributing to the presence of microscopic hematuria in children. This condition is commonly associated with a genetic disorder known as familial hematuria. Other conditions such as Alport syndrome and thin basement membrane nephropathy (TBMP) can also be responsible for causing this symptom. Detecting these disorders early is crucial in order to achieve the best possible outcomes, as both microscopic and gross (visible) hematuria in the urine can indicate the presence of these genetic disorders.
