Fasting and adopting a vegan diet can be advantageous for managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A research study published in Clinical Rheumatology found that participants who reduced their food intake for a brief period and then switched to a vegan diet experienced a suppression of RA symptoms. During the fasting period, these individuals supplemented their nutrition with vegetable juice. Subsequently, they followed a vegan diet for a year. The results showed a significant decrease in joint swelling and pain, as well as reduced levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, both of which are markers of inflammation.
