Sharing a bed with a partner can have a significant impact on sleeping positions, sleep quality, and the overall relationship. Research shows that around 94% of couples who maintain physical contact during the night report higher levels of satisfaction in their relationship. However, while spooning may be a popular choice for many couples, it can sometimes result in muscle cramps or aches due to limited movement in bed. Another common position, sleeping face to face, may actually lower sleep quality as the close proximity can lead to breathing on each other’s faces, potentially causing discomfort.
Improving Sleep Apnea through Sleep Position
Research has been conducted to investigate the impact of sleep position on sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by repeated pauses in breathing during sleep. In one study involving male participants, it was observed that sleeping on one’s side significantly enhanced oxygen saturation levels. Furthermore, a larger study corroborated these findings and pointed out that individuals who slept on their backs were more prone to experiencing sleep apnea complications.
