Treatment: Hot and Cold
Hot and cold treatment has proven to be effective in relieving muscle spasms. This method utilizes both cold and heat to interrupt the signals that cause muscles to continue spasming. The recommended approach is to first apply a cold pack, followed by heat, to the affected area. Gently move the packs, one at a time, at a rate of approximately 1 inch per second from the trigger point to the area experiencing pain. It is crucial to perform this technique in cycles lasting two to three minutes. Additionally, stretching between cycles is important, and the process can be repeated if necessary. The combination of hot and cold treatment affects the nervous system’s control over the muscles, yielding positive results.
Treatment: Myofascial Release
When it comes to addressing muscle knots, one highly effective treatment option is known as myofascial release. This technique involves the release of connective tissue surrounding the affected muscles through massage therapy. To begin the process, you or your practitioner should apply cold therapy followed by heat therapy to the knotted area.
To effectively target the trigger point, place your fingers parallel to the muscle fibers and direct them towards the area where you experience pain. Slowly move your hands apart from each other, ensuring a gradual movement of approximately 1/4 inch every 15 to 20 seconds. The process is complete when your hands are approximately 3 inches apart.
