Additionally, some individuals may have prominent blood vessels in the lower eyelids and the surrounding skin, which, when combined with thin skin, can further contribute to the development of dark circles. Unfortunately, most hereditary causes of dark circles do not have specific treatments.


Sleep Disturbances and Their Impact on Under Eye Dark Circles

When it comes to the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, sleep troubles play a significant role. While many people believe that lack of sleep is the main culprit, oversleeping, staying awake for prolonged periods, and even general fatigue can also contribute to this issue. In fact, any form of sleep disturbance can either cause the development of dark circles or exacerbate existing ones.

One of the primary ways in which lack of sleep affects the under eye area is by making the skin appear paler. This paleness, in turn, makes the blood vessels under the eyes more visible, resulting in the appearance of dark circles. Additionally, sleep deprivation can lead to the accumulation of fluid under the eyes, leading to puffiness. As a consequence, the eyes may cast small shadows, further intensifying the appearance of dark circles.
