10 Different Types of Benign Tumors

Understanding Myomas: Types and Occurrence

Myomas, also known as benign tumors, are capable of developing in the muscles of the human body. These growths can arise from either blood cells or muscles and are classified into various subtypes depending on their location and nature. Specifically, when myomas appear in smooth muscles, such as those found in the stomach or uterus, they are referred to as leiomyomas. On the other hand, rhabdomyomas are tumors that occur in striated muscles, including the heart, tongue, and vagina.

Leiomyomas are the most frequently encountered benign tumors affecting the esophagus, while cardiac rhabdomyomas are the primary heart tumors most commonly found in children. Although it is possible for myomas to become cancerous, such instances are rare.

Nevus

Nevus, commonly known as moles, beauty marks, and birthmarks, can have different causes and classifications. They can either be present at birth or develop later in life. Nevi are often caused by disorders or complications related to melanin, the pigmenting agent in the skin. While most nevi are benign, some can be cancerous. It’s important to note that a nevus doesn’t always present as a dark, external growth. In certain cases, it may appear as a white patch due to a lack of melanin.
