Dealing with Unwanted Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are a common concern for individuals with Marfan syndrome. These unsightly marks typically manifest on different body areas such as the lower back, shoulders, thighs, stomach, and breasts. The occurrence of stretch marks is a result of weakened skin and its subsequent loss of elasticity. While these marks are generally painless and harmless, they can have a significant impact on one’s emotional well-being due to their appearance.
Understanding Irregular Breathing during Sleep
Observing a person with Marfan syndrome while they sleep, it becomes apparent that their breathing patterns differ significantly from those of individuals without this genetic disorder. Marfan syndrome patients often experience sleep apnea, a condition characterized by temporary pauses in breathing during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. As a result, the affected individual may emit a choking sound before returning to normal breathing. It is not uncommon for this cycle to repeat itself multiple times per hour, or even more frequently.
