10 Kidney Infection Signs and Symptoms

6. Fever

This is very common for most body infections. Your body will increase its core temperature in an effort to destroy the infection. You will most commonly feel cold and shivering with this fever.

This may also be a result of anemia from a kidney infection. This condition does increase your body temperature, but the fever tends to be low and usually doesn’t cause chills. Infections cause higher fevers due to the bacteria in your body. Having both at once can exacerbate the fever symptom.

7. Lower Back Pain

Your kidneys are situated between the ribs and hips and closer to your back. If you feel a throbbing and dull pain in this area, then it could be the result of a kidney infection. The pain or pressure typically occurs intermittently and most commonly affects one side. It can affect both sides, but one side is more common.

The pain usually flares whenever you’re sitting, standing or bending. You can sometimes feel this in your abdomen as well, but that’s less common than feeling it in your back.
