Unexplained Weight Loss
Unexplained weight loss is a common symptom reported by individuals with cancer. Typically, it occurs during the advanced stages of the disease. In the case of colon cancer patients, weight loss can be attributed to the cancer’s progression, as well as accompanying symptoms such as diarrhea or abdominal pain that reduce the patient’s appetite. While intentional weight loss is sometimes desired, if there is no apparent reason for the weight loss, such as reduced calorie intake or increased physical activity, it may be cause for concern and could indicate the presence of colon cancer.
Signs of Colon Cancer: Urge to Defecate
One important symptom of colon cancer is experiencing an increased urge to defecate that persists even after using the bathroom. It is crucial to note that this is different from constipation, where bowel movements are infrequent or challenging to pass. In the case of an increased urge to defecate, there may be a bowel movement, but the feeling of needing to go remains. This particular symptom is frequently observed in patients with cancer in the distant colon or rectum. The underlying cause is the heightened pressure exerted on the bowel by the cancerous growth. If you find yourself consistently feeling the need to empty your bowels without relief after using the bathroom, it could potentially signify the presence of colon cancer.
