Headaches Caused by Ear Infections
Ear infections can manifest not only symptoms in the ear but also in the head. One of the telltale signs of an ear infection is the presence of a headache. The development of headaches is attributed to the swelling of the ears, resulting in a pulsating sensation that can be felt in various areas of the head. This throbbing feeling may also extend to the inside of the ear canal, leading to discomfort and pain. Additionally, as fluid and bacteria accumulate, pain and stiffness can radiate to the neck, affecting the muscles and potentially causing further discomfort in the shoulder area.
Ear Infection Discharge: What You Need to Know
When infections affect the outer layers of the skin, it is common for them to produce a discharge. This discharge indicates the presence of bacterial and fluid buildup. Ear infections are no exception to this. As the infection progresses, you may begin to notice a yellowish to beige secretion coming out of the ear.
It is important to note that this discharge is different from normal earwax. While earwax is typically dry and crumbly, an infection discharge is runnier and may even contain specks of blood. Additionally, the severity of the infection can also affect the odor of the discharge, which may become pungent.
To prevent the spread of bacteria, it is recommended to carefully wipe off any discharge from the outer part of the ear. This helps minimize the risk of further complications and promotes the healing process.
