Uncontrollable Shaking or Shivering
Bacterial meningitis can cause persistent and uncontrollable shaking or shivering due to its impact on the nerves. This symptom can affect the entire body or be limited to specific areas such as the hands. Although tremors typically develop later in the progression of the infection, it is not a common occurrence. In addition, the accompanying bloodstream infection known as meningococcal septicemia can also contribute to shivering, as it lowers the body’s temperature. It is important to note that these shivers are different from the tremors caused by pressure on the brain and nerves.
