Uncontrollable Shaking or Twitching
Uncontrollable shaking or twitching can be a terrifying symptom to experience and is often associated with seizures. Normally, convulsions start as a rhythmic jerking motion, but during a febrile seizure, a child may experience shaking in both limbs on both sides of the body. However, in rare cases, twitching may occur solely on one side of the body. It is also unusual for shaking to be limited to a single body part, such as an arm or leg. It is important to note that shaking for more than 15 minutes during the same illness is not a common symptom of febrile seizures.
Loss of Consciousness
When a toddler experiences a febrile seizure, one of the symptoms is a loss of consciousness. If the child is standing when the seizure occurs, they will fall to the floor. During the episode, it is also possible for the child to blackout. In addition to the loss of consciousness, the child may also experience an inability to control bodily functions, leading to accidents such as passing urine.
