10 Symptoms and Treatments of Febrile Seizures

Recognizing Vomiting or Biting the Tongue during Seizures

While your child may already be experiencing a fever, it’s important to differentiate between regular vomiting and vomiting associated with a seizure. The flu typically does not cause this type of vomiting. In the case of seizures, there will be additional symptoms of febrile seizures present. This allows you to distinguish between simply feeling sick and experiencing a seizure while throwing up. Additionally, accidentally biting one’s tongue may or may not occur as another possible symptom during a seizure.

Difficulty Breathing during Febrile Seizures

Febrile seizures can manifest in various ways, but one particularly concerning symptom is difficulty breathing. While the typical manifestations of febrile seizures may involve moaning or temporary muscle tightening, difficulty breathing poses a greater risk. In some instances, children may cease to breathe altogether during a febrile seizure. This can be especially alarming if the child bites their tongue, resulting in a bluish discoloration. Additionally, if the child had something in their mouth prior to the seizure, it could potentially lead to a choking hazard.
