10 Symptoms of ALS

Breathing Difficulties in ALS

Breathing problems are a common occurrence in individuals with ALS, although they may not manifest immediately. The gradual deterioration of muscles in ALS also affects the muscles responsible for the inhalation and exhalation of air. Initially, an individual may experience shortness of breath and find it difficult to take deep breaths. However, as the disease progresses, more severe complications such as collapsed lungs may arise, necessitating the use of a continuous breathing machine.

Challenges Associated with Walking

Difficulties with walking often manifest as a prevalent symptom in the advanced stages of ALS. In the initial stages, individuals may notice weakness in their legs, which progressively deteriorates due to muscle degradation caused by the disease. Although weakness in the legs can stem from various factors, it typically emerges after the onset of other ALS symptoms.
