10 Symptoms of Cholera

Sunken and Dry Eyelids

Dehydration and cholera can have a negative impact on the eyes, leading to a lack of tears and resulting in dryness. Adequate tear production is essential for maintaining eye lubrication, which helps to flush out dirt and foreign particles. Additionally, proper lubrication keeps the eyes moisturized, prevents irritation, and ensures clear vision. Symptoms of sunken and dry eyelids may include fatigue, blurred or double vision, a hollow appearance of the eyes within the eye sockets, the presence of dark circles under the eyes, and the absence of redness in the eye sockets. To address this issue, increasing water intake is highly recommended. Additionally, temporary relief can be achieved by using eye drops to reestablish lubrication in the eyes.

Unpleasant Odor in Bowel Movements

One of the milder symptoms of the cholera virus is the presence of smelly stools, even when diarrhea is not severe. While feces are generally unpleasant to smell, an infection like cholera in the body and digestive system can make the odor particularly pungent. The infection hinders the absorption of nutrients in the intestines, resulting in soft stools with a foul, rotting fish-like smell. Although not as liquid as in severe cases of cholera diarrhea, the stools still carry a distinctive odor.
