10. Weight Fluctuation
Most people see their weight fluctuate over time. Everything from changes in activity level to a favorite new snack can impact our weight. But these changes typically take place over an extended period of time. If our weight fluctuates at a more rapid pace then it can signal something more severe. In the case of liver failure weight is often impacted by fluid retention. The previously mentioned ascites can cause a surprising amount of weight gain. Likewise, large-scale swelling of tissue in the lower legs and ankles can quite literally put on pounds within a short amount of time. Since this is largely water weight a patient might not even have changed their food intake while the weight continues to climb. Instead, the weight is all coming from the retention of fluid consumed over the course of a day.
