10 Symptoms of Marfan Syndrome

Unsightly Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a common symptom of Marfan syndrome. They often appear on different areas of the body, such as the lower back, shoulders, thighs, stomach, and breasts. These marks occur due to the weakening and loss of flexibility in the skin. Although they are not painful and do not pose any health risks, they can cause emotional distress due to their unattractive appearance.

Marfan Syndrome and Irregular Breathing during Sleep

Marfan syndrome patients often exhibit irregular breathing patterns while they are asleep, which can be noticeable to anyone sharing a room with them. This genetic disorder can lead to sleep apnea, a condition characterized by brief pauses in breathing that can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. During these pauses, the person may make choking sounds before returning to regular breathing. This cycle of interrupted breathing can occur multiple times per hour, or even more frequently.
