12 Symptoms of Pancreatitis

6. Pain When Eating or Drinking

Patients with pancreatitis may notice the symptoms worsen after taking a sizeable meal, particularly one with lots of fat. The pain can also increase rapidly after taking large amounts of alcohol. In such cases, the discomfort begins between six to 12 hours after consuming alcohol. Statistics show that alcohol is the primary factor for one-third of patients with severe pancreatitis. Men in their 30s are most susceptible to symptoms aggravated by alcohol consumption.

7. Indigestion and Stomach Upsets

When the pancreas fails to produce enzymes, fats and nutrients remain undigested. The food stays in the bowel and may cause stomach discomfort or diarrhea. It is easy to ignore indigestion by taking tablets to alleviate the discomfort. But if indigestion persists or you have diarrhea and stomach pain, you should seek medical attention.
