12 Symptoms of Pancreatitis

8. Swelling and Tenderness of the Abdomen

Besides diarrhea and stomach upsets, the other symptom of pancreatitis is a swelling or tenderness of the stomach. If the sensation is in the upper abdomen and accompanied by prolonged stomach pain, it is probably pancreatitis. When left untreated, it could lead to complications such as pseudocysts. That is a condition where pockets in the pancreas are full of fluid. You will need medical attention to avoid the pseudocysts bursting and causing an infection. Infection is a sign of severe pancreatitis that requires an extensive procedure such as surgery.

9. High Fever Accompanying Stomach Pain

Pancreatitis can also cause severe infections. When body temperature exceeds 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, your immune system could be reacting to an infection. If it is also accompanied by abdominal pain, it is probably a sign of pancreatitis. However, the abdominal discomfort can subside when you have a mild case of pancreatitis. But it is not wise to wait for the pain and fever to pass. Visit a healthcare professional to ensure you are not at risk of severe complications.
