Papules: Small, Scaly Lesions in Guttate Psoriasis
When dealing with guttate psoriasis, individuals may develop numerous small, scaly lesions known as papules. These patches typically measure less than one centimeter and have a tear-like shape, allowing them to be easily identified. Papules in guttate psoriasis often appear red or pink and primarily affect areas such as the trunk, limbs, and scalp. Interestingly, this particular form of psoriasis is commonly associated with bacterial infections like strep throat. In cases of strep infection, the immune system responds by increasing the number of immune cells in the tonsils. Some of these immune cells may then travel to the skin, exacerbating the inflammation associated with psoriasis.
