10 Symptoms of Shingles

Loss of taste

Shingles can develop close to or in the mouth. When blisters and rashes develop in the mouth, the patient can have difficulties eating food. Furthermore, shingles can damage tongue nerves leading to a temporary loss in the sense of taste.

Diagnosis and treatment

Pain killers and antiviral drugs are the most common treatment for shingles. While the medication may not cure the infection, they help alleviate pain and suppress other symptoms. If the pain is severe, your doctor can prescribe nerve-numbing medications such as topical creams. Essential oils, oat baths, and cold compresses also help in pain relief.
