10 Symptoms of West Nile

What is Stupor?

Stupor is a symptom that can manifest in severe cases of West Nile, particularly when the disease affects the nervous system. It is characterized by a state of unresponsiveness, despite the individual appearing to be conscious. Although their eyes may be open and tracking moving objects, they do not react to any stimuli except for pain. Furthermore, stimuli such as bright lights, loud noises, and shocks can also elicit a response in individuals experiencing stupor.

Understanding Muscle Weakness and Paralysis in Severe Cases of West Nile

In severe cases of West Nile, individuals may experience a range of neurological symptoms, one of which is muscle weakness that can progress to flaccid paralysis. The underlying cause of this condition is the infection’s attack on the nerves responsible for controlling muscle movement.

As the West Nile infection spreads throughout the body, the affected muscles gradually lose their strength, leading to a progressive weakness. Eventually, the muscles become limp and lose their ability to contract properly. This loss of muscle function can have serious consequences, particularly if the paralysis affects the respiratory muscles, potentially leading to a life-threatening situation.
