Tumor of the Scalp: Rare and Potentially Fatal
Scalp tumors, although uncommon, can pose a significant threat to one’s health. Typically, these tumors are successfully removed by surgeons with minimal complications and limited spread. However, there are instances where the diagnosis is made too late, as these tumors often exhibit no symptoms and remain concealed beneath the hair. It is not uncommon for individuals to notice a bump on their scalp but disregard it, which can ultimately result in a delayed diagnosis and, consequently, a worse prognosis.
Thyroid Tumor
Uncommon but significant, thyroid tumors, including mucoepidermoid carcinoma and squamous carcinoma, are classified as malignant. While they account for just 1.8 percent of all cancer diagnoses, their importance should not be underestimated. Lymphoma is the leading cause of these tumors, often developing after the occurrence of goiters and the presence of Hashimoto thyroiditis. In this autoimmune condition, the immune system targets the thyroid, resulting in an underactive thyroid gland and potential formation of tumors.
