Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition that arises when arteries become blocked, hindering the smooth flow of blood throughout the body. Primarily affecting the peripheral arteries, which carry blood from the heart to various parts of the body, PAD is characterized by the accumulation of cholesterol that causes these vessels to narrow and harden.
In most cases, PAD targets the blood vessels in the legs and feet. Individuals with this condition may experience a range of symptoms, including numbness, weakness, a sensation of coldness, cramping, and a weakened pulse in the affected areas of the body.
Understanding Aortic Aneurysm
When it comes to the detrimental effects of high cholesterol on our blood vessels, the aorta is particularly vulnerable. Serving as the main artery responsible for delivering blood throughout the body, any complications with the aorta can have severe consequences. One such complication is the development of an aortic aneurysm, which occurs when the walls of the aorta become weakened and bulge outward.
