15 Common Phobias

Understanding Cyberphobia: Fear of Computers and Digital Technology

Cyberphobia, a term used to describe the fear of computers and digital technology, represents the opposite end of the spectrum compared to those who embrace these advancements. Individuals afflicted with cyberphobia may display an aversion towards new technology due to perceiving it as complicated or intimidating to learn, particularly in milder cases. However, severe instances of cyberphobia are often rooted in the belief that technology serves as a tool for surveillance or control. Regardless of the degree, exposure to technology can trigger fear and anxiety. Yet, in severe cases, these symptoms can escalate to more severe levels. Consequently, individuals with cyberphobia often go to great lengths to avoid using technology, even if it results in added difficulties or wastes their time.

Cynophobia: The Fear of Dogs

Cynophobia, also known as the fear of dogs, is a common phobia that often stems from a previous negative encounter with dogs. Despite the fact that being bitten by a dog, especially on multiple occasions, is quite rare, cynophobia is still considered an irrational fear. This fear can be compared to ailurophobia, which is the irrational fear of cats. Individuals who suffer from cynophobia tend to assume that dogs will be violent or dangerous, whereas those without the phobia would perceive dogs as friendly animals. Although exposure to dogs in a positive and controlled environment can help alleviate cynophobia symptoms, it can also be an incredibly stressful experience.
