Causes of Stomach Pain

Understanding Appendicitis

Appendicitis is a medical condition characterized by stomach pain that is either location-specific or migrating. The pain is often described as a sharp sensation that intensifies when the person moves or coughs. While some individuals experience discomfort exclusively on the lower right side of the abdomen, others may feel it initially around the navel, which then gradually shifts to the right side. It is worth noting that pregnant women may encounter appendicitis pain in higher regions due to the shifting of their organs caused by the growing fetus. In addition to the abdominal pain, other common symptoms associated with appendicitis include fever, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. It is crucial to recognize these signs promptly as they may indicate the presence of appendicitis and require immediate medical attention.

Understanding Bowel Obstruction

Bowel obstruction is a serious condition that occurs when the normal flow of food from the stomach to the rectum is completely blocked. While constipation may cause slow and uncomfortable bowel movements, an obstruction prevents gas and other materials from passing through the intestines. This blockage can lead to abdominal pain, cramping, and swelling, which can worsen over time and increase the risk of complications such as rupture and sepsis.
