Tips For Getting Water Out of Your Ears

Experiencing water in your ears can cause discomfort, distort your hearing, and potentially lead to painful infections in the outer ear canal. Fortunately, there are several effective methods you can try to get rid of water trapped in your ears.

The Vacuum Technique

The vacuum technique is a simple method to remove water from your ear. Start by tilting your head to one side and gently placing your cupped hand over the affected ear, creating a slight seal. Then, rapidly move your hand up and down, pressing it firmly against the ear and then pulling it away. This motion generates suction, which helps to draw out the trapped water. Finally, tilt your head to the side again, allowing the water to drain out naturally.

The Valsalva Maneuver

The Valsalva Maneuver is a tried and tested technique that swimmers often employ to effectively eliminate water from their ears. The process is quite straightforward: take a deep breath, then close your mouth and gently pinch your nostrils shut. Gradually exhale the air through your nose. You will soon notice a distinct popping sound, indicating that the maneuver is taking effect. To complete the process, tilt your head to the side, allowing the water to effortlessly drain out. It is crucial to remember not to exert excessive force while exhaling, as this could potentially cause damage to your eardrums.
