Typhoid fever, a highly contagious disease caused by the S. Typhi bacteria, is believed to have originated with Mary Mallon. Born in Ireland in 1869, Mallon emigrated to the United States and worked as a cook. Unfortunately, she unknowingly spread the bacteria to numerous individuals she came into contact with. Despite being quarantined multiple times, the damage had already been done, leading to the illness of thousands in New York City and the ongoing spread of the disease.
