Baby’s Movement Milestones

Development at Four Months

At four months of age, your baby reaches important developmental milestones. By this time, your little one should be able to hold their head steady without any support. When placed on a hard surface, they can push down with their legs, displaying increased strength in their lower body. Additionally, when lying on their stomach, they will start pushing up on their elbows.

As your infant progresses, they may also start rolling over from their tummy to their back, showcasing their growing motor skills. At this stage, they are likely to demonstrate improved hand-eye coordination and will be able to hold and shake a toy. Another common behavior you may notice is your baby putting their hands in their mouth, as they begin exploring their surroundings through touch and taste.

Six Months: Developmental Milestones for Babies

By the age of six months, most babies are able to sit without any support, although this achievement can vary and may be observed as early as four months or as late as nine months. At this stage, your baby is likely to be able to roll over in both directions and, when held upright, might be able to bear weight on their legs. Some babies may even begin attempting to crawl, especially if they spend a significant amount of time on their belly. In fact, a few ambitious little ones might even be able to pull themselves up into a sitting or standing position when placed on their stomachs. Additionally, a few babies may start cruising, which involves taking sideways steps while holding onto a stable object. These early developmental milestones, such as rolling, crawling, pulling up, and cruising, play a crucial role in promoting the development of hip, core, and leg muscles.
