Baby’s Movement Milestones

Encouraging Your Baby’s Physical Development

Helping your baby to be active is important for their overall development. There are several ways you can encourage movement and physical activity in your little one. Here are some tips:

1. Tummy Time: Allow your baby to spend time lying on their tummy. This helps them explore their surroundings and strengthens their core muscles. It also helps with their motor skills development.

2. Reduce the Use of Bouncer Seats, Strollers, Swings, and Exercise Saucers: While these devices may seem convenient, it’s important to limit their use. Allowing your baby to move freely without relying on these devices encourages them to develop their own physical abilities.

3. Minimize Screen Time: Avoid exposing your infant to screens such as TVs, tablets, or smartphones as much as possible. Excessive screen time can hinder their interest in physical movement and exploration. Instead, provide them with interactive toys and encourage hands-on play.

4. Ensure Adequate Sleep: Sufficient sleep is crucial for your baby’s energy levels and overall well-being. Newborns up to three months old should aim for 14 to 17 hours of sleep daily, while infants four to 12 months old should have 12 to 16 hours of sleep every 24 hours, including naps.

By implementing these strategies, you can help your baby develop their physical abilities, motor skills, and overall physical well-being. Encouraging an active lifestyle from a young age sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits.

Ensuring Baby’s Safety

Ensuring the safety of your baby becomes paramount as they start to explore their surroundings. It is crucial to never leave an infant unattended on a surface from which they can roll over and potentially fall. Additionally, it is important to block off areas that are not child-proof, such as the kitchen, especially when someone is cooking. To further minimize risks, keep small objects that could pose choking hazards out of reach.
